Eating out is one of the best parts of living in Melbourne. The only annoying bit is the guesswork: you find a place that looks great, but you have no real idea what it will cost until the bill lands. Rest Easy is a free Melbourne restaurant recommendation app built to take that guesswork away.
I built it because the apps I was using were oddly cagey about price. Google and OpenTable lump everything into vague brackets like $20 to $40, which tells you almost nothing when you are actually deciding where to go. I wanted something that simply tells you what a meal there will cost.
So Rest Easy shows what a main actually costs at each place, because that one honest number is what most of us decide on. There is also a best dish feature, where people share what their favourite dish costs, so you get a real feel for a place before you go. No surprises, no maths at the table.
From there it grew to cover the good stuff that makes going out easier: dining deals, opening specials, buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offers, lunch deals, happy hours and freebies, plus restaurants with no Sunday surcharge. I keep them together as a living, regularly updated list, so there is always a reason to say yes to one more dinner.
Underneath it all is a simple belief: so much of life happens over food, and a bit of certainty about the bill makes it easier to enjoy. Rest Easy is here to make eating out feel easy, whatever your budget. You can read the fuller story behind Rest Easy on Instagram.
Rest Easy is focused on Melbourne, Australia, for now, with more cities to come. Under the hood you get personalised recommendations from a few quick questions, an interactive map of what is good nearby, the standout dishes and reviews that help you choose, and a way to save the spots you and your friends recommend. The best place to start is the map. You can also see how it works or read the FAQ.
